Hautecombe Abbey

Located on the west bank of Le Bourget Lake, overlooking the expansive lake, the Royal Abbey of Hautecombe is renowned for being the necropolis of the Maison de Savoie and several kings and queens of Italy. It is the most widely visited monument in Savoie.

Founded in 1125, the Abbey is a listed historical monument. At the end of the 1980s, the Benedictine monks left this location which had become too tourist oriented. Today, the Community of the Chemin Neuf uses the abbey for theological training.

You can drive to the Abbey (from Aix-les-Bains: 10 km, Chambéry: 25 km) or by cruise boat.
