Great lakes

Chambéry Savoie Mont Blanc Airport is located next to Le Bourget Lake, the largest natural lake in France with 18km of banks, and at least one hour's drive from 43 other large natural lakes: Aiguebelette Lake, Annecy Lake and Lake Geneva.   Water sports, swimming and relaxation…The water in these lakes can reach 25° in summer and there are many activities available.

Le Bourget Lake

Le Bourget Lake is the romantic lake par excellence illustrated by Lamartine in his famous poem. To the west, nature blossoms and you can admire the Hautecombe Abbey under the Dent du Chat mountain. To the north, the lake heads towards the Rhône River via Savières Canal. On the east bank, which is more urbanised, is Aix-les-Bains which was awarded the National Water Sport's Label and offers many activities. To the south lies Le Bourget-du-Lac with its fine sandy beach. In the summer, the water reaches over 22° and is reminiscent of the Mediterranean.

Aiguebelette Lake

Nestled under the Epine Mountain at the heart of Savoy, Aiguebelette Lake is the smallest of the great lakes. Sheltered from the wind, the lake (motor boats not permitted) has calm water and is a haven for swimmers and rowers. In 2015 it hosted the World Rowing Championships.

Annecy Lake

Several dozen minutes from Chambéry Airport, head off to discover Annecy and its lake. The pure waters of the lake are the reflection of Annecy and the mountains: la Tournette, les Dents de Lanfon or Mount Veyrier. The Port de Talloires on the east offers a picturesque view. In summer, pleasure boaters, windsurfers, swimmers and fishermen can enjoy water at a temperature of between 22 and 24°.

Lake Geneva

The largest of the four lakes (583 km²) lies just 1 hour by road from Chambéry. On this lake, the gentle and relaxing lifestyle is so reminiscent of the large lakes. The French bank is home to two thermal towns Thonon-les-Bains (awarded the National Water Sports Label) and Évian-les-Bains. Lake Geneva is the most heavily navigated of the great lakes. This is an invitation to enjoy a cruise.
